Tornado 5.2m — Compact Offshore Capability with Professional Construction

The Tornado 5.2m is the most compact model in the Tornado range, developed for owners and operators who require a highly capable offshore RIB in a size that remains easy to store, transport and handle.

Despite its compact dimensions, the 5.2m retains the same core Tornado design philosophy used throughout the larger commercial range: deep-V hull geometry, predictable offshore handling, low structural weight and durable professional-grade construction materials.

Its size makes it particularly well suited to coastal operations, diving support, yacht tender use, harbour transport, safety support and demanding recreational boating where manoeuvrability and practicality are essential.

Compact Hull with Genuine Offshore Behaviour

At the centre of the Tornado 5.2m is a refined deep-V hull designed to maintain comfort and directional stability in changing sea conditions.

The hull geometry delivers:

  • Soft and controlled landings in short chop
  • Predictable tracking at speed
  • Reduced hull slamming in rough water
  • Stable low-speed handling
  • Efficient planing with moderate engine power

Pronounced spray rails help maintain a dry ride while also improving hydrodynamic efficiency and reducing drag through the water.

The result is a compact RIB capable of operating confidently beyond sheltered waters while remaining responsive and easy to control.

Efficient Power and Lightweight Performance

The Tornado 5.2m is optimised for outboard engines between 40hp and 60hp using a 508 mm shaft configuration.

Its relatively low structural weight allows the hull to plane efficiently with moderate power, reducing fuel consumption while still delivering strong acceleration and useful cruising speeds.

This balance between weight, hull efficiency and engine range makes the 5.2m economical to run while maintaining the offshore capability expected from a Tornado hull.

Professional-Grade Construction

Like the larger models in the range, the 5.2m uses a lightweight composite structure engineered for durability and repeated marine use.

The hull incorporates:

  • Polymer-core composite construction
  • Reinforced laminate skins
  • Structural layouts designed to minimise long-term laminate fatigue
  • High rigidity with controlled overall weight

The inflatable tubes are manufactured from polyurethane (PU), selected for its significantly greater abrasion resistance and UV durability compared to conventional PVC-based tube materials.

This construction approach provides long service life in demanding marine environments while reducing maintenance requirements over time.

Dry Running and Operational Safety

The Tornado 5.2m maintains high bow sheer and carefully balanced buoyancy distribution to improve dryness and safety during offshore operation.

The combination of deep-V geometry, spray control and tube stability helps the boat remain composed in changing sea states while improving passenger comfort during longer journeys.

Large-diameter tubes also contribute additional reserve buoyancy and lateral stability during boarding, diving operations and low-speed manoeuvring.

Flexible Use Cases

The compact footprint of the 5.2m makes it adaptable to a wide range of operational roles, including:

  • Yacht tender operations
  • Diving support
  • Harbour and marina transport
  • Coastal patrol and safety support
  • Recreational offshore boating
  • Chase boat applications

Its combination of offshore capability, manageable size and professional-grade construction makes it one of the most versatile entry points into the Tornado range.

Tornado 5.2m — Compact Size Without Compromising Capability

The Tornado 5.2m delivers the handling, ride quality and structural philosophy associated with the Tornado name in a compact and highly practical platform.

Designed for real marine use rather than sheltered-water compromise, it provides efficient performance, durable construction and dependable offshore behaviour in a size that remains easy to own and operate.
